For a few times, I’ve been facing an issue on the Cromite browser on Android. Many official websites don’t open in this browser, whereas the same sites open normally on Brave.
So today, I decided to compare my configuration with Privacy Guides’ recommended configuration for Cromite.
Cromite currently supports adding extensions on Android, so I want to know whether it’s recommended to add extensions.
I believe uBlock Origin is the gold standard for privacy on browsers, and I’ve added it to my Cromite browser.
I believe that content blockers are not particularly effective at improving privacy in browsers. https://fingerprint.com runs on over 6000 sites (if you believe their metrics, which I do). In my experience, content blockers make no difference at guarding against fingerprint.com’s tactics.
Use for preventing malvertising, may prevent tracking on rudimentary sites, certainly improves the web experience. Not anything close to a silver bullet, unfortunately.
It’s been merged but not updated on the website yet but do NOT use Cromite anymore. It is insanely outdated at this point still on v148 vs the current v150, meaning it’s missing many security fixes.
there aren’t many alternatives, but one I like is WebLibre (available on f-droid). It has all the security settings in the settings menu and can be enabled with a single tap. It’s very privacy focused.
