Is there any way to increase indexing frequency of macOS via or for Spotlight on macOS 26?

Hi all,

Well, basically the title question is for which I need an answer.

I would like my Mac to index everything on it more often so want to know if this is possible with the massively improved spotlight on macOS 26.

Thanks!

This is a good question I’m not really sure about, but why do you want this to happen in the first place? I don’t really experience problems in this regard.

If you are having issues it could just be that your index is broken. You could trigger a reset by adding “Macintosh HD” to the privacy setting that excludes folders from Spotlight, then waiting a bit and removing it.

Well, it’s most personal preference to be able to search for files and documents immediately after you download. This does not work always as it seems like indexing is always needed. Spotlight also doesn’t pick up on newly installed apps until after indexing every couple of days or so or whenever it auto indexes.

Not sure if my indexing is broken because it does work, just not right away. I’ll give your idea a try. Thanks!

I understand what you mean but I am not finding an obvious way to do this. Can you elaborate on how I can go about it. Maybe I am not looking in the right place.

I’m surprised and mad at myself for now being able to get this done.

Much appreciated!

I used to use Alfred before so didn’t know about all Spotlight settings.

That sounds strange because AFAIK spotlight indexing is continuous. I was having some problems with spotlight indexing with macOS 26 betas but those problems have seemingly been resolved for me with the stable release.
