I made a mistake of purchasing a long-term subscription plan and also dumping credits on the account. A few years passed and I decided I want to diversify a bit and not put all of my eggs into the Proton basket. The service has been fine for the most part, but I just feel like it isn’t for me anymore. I still respect their core philosophy though. As it currently stands, I have $640 in credits stuck in Proton. I did reach out to support to ask for a refund, but they refused. I tried to follow-up by asking for a manual review and also let them know I was willing to donate a portion of the refund to the Proton Foundation, but that was also rejected. I am hoping to find some online marketplace where I can sell the credits at a discount. At this point, the credits are just sort of dead and I’d be happy to get what value I can out of them. I asked Proton Support if I was allowed to transfer the credits to another user. They have not got back to me about that, but after looking online, it seems like this is something they largely do support doing… just without any warranty. How I would ideally like to see this trade work is that I make a request to Proton support and ask to transfer some or all of the credits to a Proton username. After that person confirms they have the credits, they could then send me an agreed upon amount. This allows me to assume all of the risk as a show of good faith that I am not trying to scam anyone. It also protects me in case Proton refuses to transfer the credits, because I’d rather not deal with having to refund in that case. I thought about trying eBay, but that has the problem is the person paying me before I am even sure if Proton will actually transfer the credits over. So, I’m really looking for some site that facilitates peer-to-peer trades. For me this is largely going to be a one-time thing. I am not some reseller or anything like that. Just a normal person that overspent on a service that I am personally looking to move away from. As I previously said, I am not even sure if this question is appropriate for this forum. This is not legal advice and should only be viewed as general guidance. Depending on your jurisdiction it may be considered an unfair trading term by putting you, a consumer, at a significant disadvantage. I know for a fact Proton can offer refunds for credit outside their 30 days limit, however, they maintain discretion to do so, unless you invoke jurisdictional consumer rights. Also Proton will most likely not facilitate transfers of credit to another account, pretty sure I read it somewhere in their terms. --- ## Post 3 by @anon97142090 — 2026-06-10T19:05:35Z I am in the U.S. The only reason I thought this might work is because a few years ago I asked customer support to transfer $50 in credits to a friend who wanted to try a year of service and they did it. I think a lot of this is just a roll of the dice with which support agent you get. That is also why I would feel more comfortable trying to send the credits before asking for anything in return. This does mean I have a high chance of being burned, but the alternative is just having credits that I would much rather liquidate. So, it is worth the risk to me. If none of this works out, that’s okay too. I was asked for an account name to send credits to. So, I guess I may just try eBay. Since Proton has given me the go ahead, I think I can sell the credits of in multiple transactions so that should make it easier since I can sell credits in smaller amounts until they are all gone. I think I’m going to sell them at a 50% discount just to offload them quickly. --- ## Post 6 by @anon97142090 — 2026-06-11T15:40:16Z Hey all, I just wanted to update this topic and let everyone know that someone reached out to me and all of my Proton credits have been sold. I still have a Mullvad account that I paid for using a gift card if anyone is interested in that. It expires on **April 27, 2027 at 07:55 PM**. I am going to try to sell it for $35. While I personally think the person won’t do that, there is always the risk.
