Yet, this is still much safer, and ultimately “private” to use card within mobile, than physical card. From this point we just have to ask ourselves a question - is sharing my data with this provider is bothering me?
On the other hand, I cannot use these services even if I wanted to. I’ve installed GrapheneOS, which does not offer support for Google Pay or payment through my bank’s cellphone app (it’s the only feature which doesn’t work).
Whichever payment method you use depends somewhat on your threat model, but also your feelings about sovereignty. I despise the idea of relying on Apple, Google or Samsung for my payments. I’m okay with relying on my bank for those payments.
Cash for private payments, cellphone-based NFC payments for secure payments.
