I downloaded adguard back a few years ago and removed it from my homepage and forgot I had it for years. I assumed it was trustworthy because it is open source and recommended here. Also IOS App store says it collects no information. But then I got to thinking. How can you know the binary on the app store is the same as the source they put on github? Also, when I checked details on the App store, it just says the developer claims it collects no information but it hasn’t been checked by Apple. I am not trying to discredit the developer in any way I just am wondering.

You can’t. It’s a matter of trust with AdGuard - which people do and they have a solid reputation. But if you know how to compile an app, you could test this yourself.

Do some more research, browse this forum and the Techlore forum - you;ll learn that the general consensus is that AdGuard is indeed a reputable and a trusted tool.
