> Customizable and privacy-conscious open-source keyboard

### Short description

Privacy-focused keyboard alternative for android. Has lots of features as well.

### Why I think this tool should be added

Meets minimum criteria, is well maintained and is also open source.

### Section on Privacy Guides

This looks cool, if this is added, I think it would also only be fair to add [FUTO Keyboard](https://keyboard.futo.org/#download). It’s what I use, but it is technically in alpha. I haven’t encountered issues, but maybe it could wait until a stable release.

I have tried both Futo and Florisboard. All of these keyboards have their own strengths/weaknesses but I mainly recommend Heliboard because it’s stable and has the least amount of issues on their repo.

I’ve been using HeliBoard since OpenBoard stopped getting updates. It functions smoothly without requiring much adjustment, which is why I always return to HeliBoard.

This is what I have been using for a long time.

What do you think of it?

Not a big fan of this keyboard. For me it’s minimalistic, which is very cool, but its features are kinda generic. I struggle to type with it for this reason, and I find SwiftKey better because with it I can type faster and better.

I personally don’t recommend it, especially if you type a lot.

Also can support adding HeliBoard, great transition from other built in keyboards from android. Wish it was better with copy-paste and emoji recommendations otherwise like it a lot. Might switch to FUTO’s whenever it comes out of alpha

Its customization is its biggest advantage. It looks simple in its default state but you can tweak it to work however you want it to.

From Microsoft and proprietary so an unlikely candidate for PG.

In terms of privacy-respecting keyboards, there’s not THAT much choice.

- a bunch of very basic ones that can’t do swipe typing or multilingual typing
- HeliBoard
- AnySoftKeyboard
- Florisboard
- FUTO Keyboard (which has a “source first” license, it’s not free software)

have these also voice typing/voice input like Futo has?

You can use Futo’s voice input via heliboard, but I don’t know about the other ones.

Never used Futo but [Whisper](https://f-droid.org/packages/org.woheller69.whisperplus) works with HeliBoard
