Is there a Youtube Frontend that you can transfer all your subscriptions and playlist (especially the watch later one) to replace youtube altogether? Can you subscribe to new content within the frontend? Does Freetube work that way?
You can with freetube, yes. You need to get your youtube data from Google, and then you can import that into freetube. The only ““disadvantage”” compared to youtube is that you don’t get good recommendations. For following youtubers you like, it’s perfect. There’s also yt-x that lets you do this though it’s a TUI client.
Great, I’ll try that. I don’t use recommendations at all so no worries there. I’ll post back after a week.
Is there a freetube equivalent on android?
So I just tried Freetube and the UI is fantastic. I love all the available settings as well.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t support importing playlist (Youtube uses csv format, while Freetube use .db format).
It seems no progress was made since July on this issue either: [Feature Request]: Import Playlists from YouTube · Issue #5057 · FreeTubeApp/FreeTube · GitHub
I wasn’t able to see if Freetube was working on implementing it or not.
Edit: Solution is to wait for the implementation.
There is also Newpipe which has been around for a long time. You can transfer your subscriptions to it also.
That’s unfortunate, I don’t use that functionality so I didn’t know. Freetube is also available on Android.
I really like the UI of freetube, so I’ll wait for it to be implemented before deleting my youtube account and switching to is officially.
