Foss web clipper suggestions

I would like to clip screenshots and images (original quality) to the cloud using browser extension

what I have found so far

Evernote and Notion (closed sourced) , not good privacy policies , and notion’s firefox extension hasn’t been updated in 5 years

Notesnook’s web extension is not practical for my use case , I’d have to click on 5 things each time i want to use web clipper

Standard notes’ web clipper is for paid plans only ( I have proton sub but they don’t plan to include it )

Looking for an alternative , preferably free , that has maintained browser extension , open source , ideally e2ee , but not deal breaker

also don’t want to install extra desktop app (so that excludes sharex and joplin)

Firefox browser has a built in screenshotting option you can add via customize toolbar options.

unfortunately it doesn’t save to the cloud which is what i’m looking for

So you want it to auto save to the cloud? You can always select where it saves to when you screenshot and download via FF or directly hit copy and you can paste it in your cloud folder through your OS files app.

The obsidian web clipper is supposed to be very comprehensive I think, if you use obsidian

I tried it today and it highlights text but I couldn’t save images nor screenshots , are you sure it supports that ?

plus you need to install their app to see the clips , i prefer a web app

Maybe linkwarden? The cloud hosted is paid, theres no free tier but theres free trial, its selfhostable if thats your thing, and theres few places that hosted it for free for the public to use. No e2e though so using the free public instance by random people might not be a good idea unless you really trust the hoster.

I tried it but the extension doesn’t have screenshot unfortunately , I ended up just saving locally and doing scheduled rclone copy to e2ee filehoster (Filen) , janky until i find proper e2ee solution , or when standard notes is included in proton subscriptions

Sadly, that’s never going to happen. They recently addressed this and said they’re going to stay separate.
