FeurStagram

Website

Short description

Instagram frontend with less tracking and distractions.

Why I think this tool should be added

Could be useful for people who want to slow down their usage of instagram but are not ready to give it up yet. Not sure it should be on the site but worth to share here in the community.

I definitely have to try this out, I used to use Bibliogram for browsing Instagram before Facebook got more aggressive with rate-limiting and made the site unusable

Try Kittygram. It works great for me.

It sounds to me like it is more geared toward limiting your use of IG, more than anything else.
Although I practically never use Instagram, I do have an account, and I have been looking for or good modded version since Instander stopped being updated.

Instander was popular IG mod that blocked ads among other things, but it had not been updated for a long time, after which point it stopped working. I later learned that the sole developer, who was apparently from Ukraine, died in the war. At least according to various sources. This is why I am always weary of using an app that is developed by a single person, even if it is great.

Does Feurstagram block ads?
And is it possible to enable the doomscrolling for those who want to?

I haven’t used an IG app in years and only occasionally use it on web, because some media outlets, organizations, and journalists post exclusive content there.

This looks interesting but it’s currently not working. I just tried to search for someone’s profile, and it says it’s down.

Biliogram doesn’t seem to be working either.

Search is broken, as it says when you search—profiles and posts work fine.

Search is currently broken. See https://codeberg.org/irelephant/kittygram/issues/22 for more info.

How do I visit a profile though? NVM. I figure it out.

I hope your point is also about asking questions to which the answer can be found by opening the posted link.

Try using instances other than official.

I mean RTFM man. The answers are litterly in the readme file…

RTFM = ā€œRead The Fucking Manualā€

In PG we have two rules firstly the ā€œImprove the Discussionā€ and ā€œAlways be civilā€.
The Mod-Team flagged and removed posts that contain the following words in the past: ā€œbullshitā€, ā€œshitā€ and ā€œfuckā€.

So it can be argued based on decisions in the past that the rule should be interpreted as that also these words are forbidden.
The user @micdan linked the post to bring the rule on your radar again.

I’m unable to make a quality review of the code, but it was written with an LLM¹ from the comment I would guess Claude Opus.

1: The author said he used an LLM, he did not say how much he used it or if it is completely generated with an LLM.

Would you mind linking the source of it? I may need to add it up to Open Slopware then. :joy_cat: ĀÆ\(惄)/ĀÆ

Point taken tho. No these words are not forbidden but depending on context they might be. You will find various non moderated posts with it. But i guess this is on the edge surely. I’ll keep it in mind, my point was more that asking questions in lengthy posts that are litterly answered in the linked source are not much helpful.

Hi, I’m the maintainer of FeurStagram.

Thanks for the feedback. I want to clarify something regarding the use of AI.

I did use AI tools during development, but not as a black box to blindly generate code. the goal was to support my learning process, help me understand some parts of the stack, and patch faster while staying in control of what I was building.

Every piece of code that ends up in the project is reviewed, understood, and adjusted manually. This isn’t vibe coding or some kind of opaque magic.

I understznd the concerns around maintainability and code quality, that’s fair, and I’m taking it seriously as the project evolves.

If you have specific concerns about parts of the codebase, I’m happy to discuss them !

I mean, my concerns are not just about code quality, but the ethical and environmental issues around using AI in any shape or form.

Then you can add Firefox, Python, curl, systemd, rsync, Ladybird, Ghostty, Hugo, ohmyzsh, and so on to OpenSlopware x)

You forgot to mention the Linux kernel.

No front against the author of Open-Slopware but I’m not sure how smart it is to kinda tell people to not use things like Chromium/Firefox-based browsers, the Linux kernel etc just because of a permissive AI policy. But to each their own I guess.

Greetings so it appears this is a patches for the Instagram apk. That makes sense because I remember what FB does to standalone clients like that great Barinstagram app (Dang I miss it).

I was wondering does it/could it work with the Instagram Lite application? Im not sure too many people know about that one but it’s designed for weaker devices (and possibly is less bloated and/or trackery)
