Based on the article, I can see the benefit for fans and the arena to use the technology. Fans don’t need to fumble for cards in their wallets and they can get through lines quicker. Both are common pain points for fans and this resolves them seamlessly.
The arena also benefits in preventing fans that were disruptive in the past from attending events again. Though this technology has also been used to target opponents as the article notes and even a transgender woman.
Having said that, the use of facial recognition has ruined my interest in going to games along with the usual price gouging and hidden fees from Ticketmaster. More from Wired on facial recognition use at Madison Square Garden.
