# Expansion Ideas for the Self-Hosting Section

I want to thank the team that added the self-hosting section! It’s a really important aspect of privacy, I do think however that it’s pretty short and could use some expansion so a user could host a larger array of services. Here’s some I’ve used or heard about so this is more of a discussion

## DNS Services

_I know these are elsewhere on the site but I think it would be good to put them here too._

- Pi-hole (I’ve used this one for years and its an easy one to self-host)
- Adguard

## File storage

- Nextcloud? (I haven’t had a great experience setting this one up but it’s popular)
- Samba share (Super easy for most people to setup)

## Photo Storage

_I haven’t used any of these but I’ve heard about each of them_

- Immich
- Photoprism
- Ente Photos

## Notes

_I know standard notes is in here already but we could add more options_

- Joplin

## VPN

- Wireguard (I’ve used this one though setup is always tricky for me)

## Media Servers

- Jellyfin
- Calibre Server

I’m sure I’m missing some other good ones but these are just of the top of my head. We could also recommend an operating system for self-hosting like Fedora Server/IoT and move the Freedombox recommendation here.
