A post was merged into an existing topic: Android phone - is Pixel the only available option?
Misinformation and an accusation in one sentence, nice.
It doesnât have good security, it compromises security of Android if the phone you have doesnât support locking the bootloader, and alongside that has vastly slower updates than even LineageOS, which is why if you have an end of life device that you want to keep using, generally LineageOS is recommended and not CalyxOS or especially /e/OS.
Not part of the criteria for Android distributions, and also Iâd rather not be locked into using specific software. Not to mention, itâs literally not degoogled if it still makes connections to Google, once again, check the comparison Lukas sent.
They have a history of not catching up, always being slow.
Not all of them.
I donât understand the use of gatekeeping here, gatekeeping the recommendations for PrivacyGuides? Thereâs a clear criteria at the bottom of every page. Forums are used to help people who donât need a clear best. In this case, many seem to agree that LineageOS is the second best because many devices are supported unlike /e/OS or CalyxOS, and has good privacy with compromises to security. You can use whatever you want, believe whatever you want, but when it comes down to making recommendations itâs best not to fool people into thinking that something like /e/OS is on-par with GrapheneOS or is even recommended to replace stock. GrapheneOS is the best, and is the only one right now that fits the criteria, which is unfortunate that it is the only one since in a perfect world, weâd have more.
Yes, some users here can seem a little rude, but thatâs just how it is when everyone is passionate about privacy and security. Especially on such a topic that has been discussed over and over, and as a result has a lot of information on why itâs not a good choice and why it doesnât fit the criteria to be recommended. These arenât personal attacks on you, some people get tired of answering the same thing constantly.
I agree here, I have to deal with so many people replying to my post about /e/OS on the Fediverse and I have to paste the same links everytime itâs starting to bother me
PrivacyGuides recommendations are just that - recommendations. Based on principles PG set and explained. And there knowledge base starts with threat modeling, so itâs up to each person to evaluate pros and cons of products they (want to) use. And no one gets blocked in this community for using non-recommended products.
I am the one who thinks (and have written here numerous times) alternative Android ROMs (LineageOS, iode, /e/âŚ) have there use case and should be used, but also understand PGs stance.
