Duckduckgo made public poll to see what people think about AI.

90% voted against.

* * *

IMHO: I am against too. Too many slop now, which, i think, is obviously needed to be regulated by governments. Plus that AI made prices on cunsumer rise, so i am against ×2.

I think the world still hasn’t thought it fully through for how and what AI is supposed to be and function with humans and not instead of them.

But the business models of the companies making these technologies cannot work with how ethically one may want to have AI exist to work with and for humans and again, not instead and against.

It always comes down to money. Don’t have to look too far and is not rocket science to understand.

Hot take:
I voted for LLMs.
It depends on how it is implemented and if I look at Kagi search where you can add a “?” at the end of the search query and LLM will pop up an answer the questions besides the normal search results it is pretty useful. If you want a quick and fast answer to a question, where you normally need to check multiple websites it gets useful.
If I don’t write the “?” I don’t get any LLM at all.

The same goes for something like ChatGPT, Grok, Mistral, Deepseek.
They are lifesavers. For example, I have an error log of more than 150.000 lines where something crashed. Before LLMs I would need to go through line to line and read it myself or write a RegEx filter that tries to filter out unnecessary stuff.
Nowadays, I can give the logs Grok or if It’s something sensitive my "local"¹ models.

Do I support LLM shit like Microslop, Elon Musks Grok on X, LLMs in WhatsApp? BIG FAT NO

1: They are running on an small LLM server with two Nvidia T4s

Imho it’s a bit stupid to hate ALL AI. It’s a tool after all.

Doctors for example save lives because of AI that they just couldn’t save otherwise.

It’s a bit like hating electricity because it enables people to use for example power tools to work faster or do work for which you needed to be incredibly skilled before.

And then yes you can rightfully say that it makes people lose their jobs, is ethically bad, is environmentally bad but the same thing was or could’ve been said about electricity when it was discovered and adopted. Do you blame consumers nowadays for using electricity because the sources it was generated from is sometimes still mostly from fossil fuels like in the US or Germany and thus bad for the environment?

I think this discussion will just die down like the one about electricity because AI is the future like electricity was.

Is everthing bad about it? No

Is everthing good about it? Absolutely not

Stop thinking in black and white. I think it should be regulated though. Imo a lot of people hate AI not because of what it is but because it’s not regulated well enough and don’t really understand that small but very important distinction

If i need to use AI, then i will use local version. And often as translator/mistakes corrector.

Cloud AI is privacy-intrusive, wallet-drainig, government-backdoored, censorship-walled slop.

And chat LLM _can_ be useful (for ex log lookup, as you said), but video/image/audio generative AI should be PROHIBITED. It is useless and have no purpose other than SCAM/slop.

I am not against AI as whole. I am against putting it everywhere, automaing everything.

Also agentic AI raise extremely high amount of concerns (privacy + security). I don’t want to use vibecoded app with dozens of vulns or send my data to person that will use AI (most likely cloud one) to analyze it. So i am trying to use poising and noise techniques, when i need to send for example CV.

this goes beyond just “company makes money by putting AI”, this is about the opinions
that’s what both techaltar and human mimic is discussing about and here with this thread not how it affects or how it operates on a business’s bottom line.
I only shared it because I resonate with their opinion and statement

> If i need to use AI, then i will use local version. And often as translator/mistakes corrector.

Even with two T4s I can’t run big models and I can’t compete with the power of Grok or GPT models.
So yes as I already said local LLMs are an option, but not useful in some scenarios where you need better/stronger models.

If you compare nanogpt, Proton lumo, deepkseek or any other open source model against Grok 4 heavy or GPT5 pro the difference is huge.

> but video/image/audio generative AI should be PROHIBITED. It is useless and have no purpose other than SCAM/slop.

Image and Video?
What is with cutters and photo editors. Who use Photoshop or premier (or Davinci resolved) for editing videos and photos?
The help of an AI to correct mistake or automate things is huge.

It isn’t always about slop rather than automating things.

100% on your side.

I better have compromise on this, than leak data and have yet another shitty subscription

Plus i use it only for catching typos in text or summary of big docs, so i don’t need so much power

people are out here using ai for therapy, for relationship advice, for any thinking at all…it’s gotta stop tbh it’s the most resource intensive thing on the planet and these ceos literally want data centers the size of manhattan… and it’s the best tool for targeted ads ever

> **Might be too political for this forum, but…**
>
> The problem isn’t with the tool in this case, it’s whose tool it is. Power tools for laborers are the laborers’ tool, because it makes their jobs easier. AI is not a tool for the average person, it’s a tool for the capitalist class to replace the need for the average person in the economy, and we’re all expected to be excited about it while it replaces us. That’s why there’s so much money going into it. The people with the money to spend see it as their ticket to being rid of the labor class forever.
>
> I think it’s probably a very long way off from being capable of that to be fair, but that’s the target nonetheless. Don’t ask me to get excited about the innovation of the new boot being made for the purpose of stamping on my face.
>
> New tools like AI have never made anyone more fulfilled in life. They might extend life through medical innovation, but that is a mere side effect of their true purpose of improving economic efficiency for the benefit of those with capital at the expense of the fulfillment of everyone else.
>
> I don’t actually care to view the world through this lense of class war if I can help it either, but I have known enough in the capitalist class to know that they **do** whether we like it or not.

I don’t think this is why most people hate AI though, at least not directly. They hate it because as “just a tool”, people instinctively feel how soulless it is, and it’s being pushed as a replacement for things that previously had at least some degree of soul to them.

## Post 13 by @anon0179693 — 2026-02-05T14:41:34Z

I disagree, it is definetely useful **as a tool and not as a human replacement** (otherwise especially in scenarios where data is involved [eg. I tried to get lumo to be a trainer umamusume style and I think where it excels the most is data, otherwise it really hallucinates or needs more training data to get it right but thats it]).
What AI needs to mitigate is **proper** regulation and solution to the problem in regards to individual data and Intellectual Property, especially because as we universally agree, training from human made art just to have a stable diffusion without their permission violating their copyright is a big no no [not mentioning solving [ai artist tracing](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bokGdQOHGrw&pp=ygUPbXVqaW4gYWkgdHJhY2Vy) problem]

Replace AI by industrialization in your text and read it again.

It sounds exactly like what a labourer in the industrialization would’ve written.

Were they right and we should’ve never evolved farther than manufacturies? I don’t think so

Did life become worse for a lot of people in the beginning of industrialization? Absolutely and trade unions were a hugely important part for the working class to get rights.

I think it’s important to think about it this way. It will dramatically change how our societies work but if enough people stand up for their rights and AI gets regulated then it will help our future generations.

I personally think we’ll be heading for some rough years when it comes to jobs as a lot of people need to change their professions entirely and some will understandably be pretty mad about this.

Side note: even small models of 3b or 7b can be crazy good nowadays. Way better than a few years ago and if they evolve as fast as they did the past few years then we might be able to run something as good as a SOTA AI model of today on our own smartphones/computers. This will be both more energy efficient and very privacy friendly.

Edit: it might be interesting to go to a museum about industrialization/work. Where I live they’re mostly free and are hugely interesting nowadays as a lot of issues people had back then are very similar to the ones we have now or will probably have in a few years.

Maybe I am a technology phobe, I block or disable AI anywhere and anytime I can.

---

## Post 16 by @anon80329175 — 2026-02-05T15:36:05Z

Is there a reason for why you do it or just because?

---

## Post 17 by @IsItJustMe — 2026-02-05T15:41:58Z

Because I’m not a tech guru and it’s something I don’t understand. I very good a other things in life like repairs and mechanical inclination but I severely lack the technical skills for computers and technology at a deep level.

So one could argue I block it out of ignorance and they would be right.

You seem to be mistaken about the impact of the industrial revolution. No one in the midst of the industrial revolution thought there was an existential threat to the existence of human labor. Quite the opposite in fact, human labor was required for the industrial revolution. Certain kinds of human labor were replaced in the industrial revolution, but not human labor itself. The point of AI is to replace the need for human labor entirely. That’s why the rich have been pouring the equivalent resources to the GDPs of nations into its development.

It might be interesting to engage in an honest discussion without condescending and assuming the person who you disagree with only does so because they are less educated than you.

(although this topic might derail the thread, so in DMs might be best if you did want to have that discussion)

And Mozilla is pedal to the metal for AI. Every one of their posts on Bluesky is talking about their vision of AI everything in their products. Its so sad.

I think we just have to agree to disagree then.

I never meant to be condescending, sorry if you interpreted it this way.

I was just in a museum of work a few weeks ago and would recommend it to anyone as I personally believe we’re in similar times.

## Post 22 by @Scott — 2026-02-05T19:37:08Z

The thing I’m not liking is Mozilla will spend so much money on AI that nothing will be left over for development of other products.

## Post 23 by @any1 — 2026-02-05T19:47:11Z

I don’t follow Mozilla on any social media, but it’s sad to see that 9/10 posts contain the word “AI”.

At the end of the day, having AI or not doesn’t change anything: it will still go and fetch the data from the Internet, Reddit etc.
It’s just a more powerful search engine and needs to be taken with a grain of salt, like anything read on the Internet. It meanwhile makes the fetching a bit faster.

I think AI at whole is too political. Try asking something about current conflicts and it will spread propaganda in 5/10 cases in best. Because it was trained on such shit.

Yes to AI in general as a technology, but no to AI in a Web browser or search engine. I use AI on my own terms when I need it for coding, research overviews and miscellaneous writing, but don’t want it forced down my throat when I am doing something else.
