I recently read this article: [https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/31/magazine/sabrina-javellana-florida-politics-ai-porn.html](https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/31/magazine/sabrina-javellana-florida-politics-ai-porn.html) about how deepfake pornography was used to harass and intimidate someone. I was wondering what governments can do to help prevent this kind of thing from happening in a privacy preserving way (not deanonymizing the internet, not destroying [Section 230](https://www.eff.org/issues/cda230) or other similar laws). Does anyone here have ideas on privacy preserving ways to help prevent harmful deepfakes? I don’t think that this has been discussed much in the privacy community but I think it should as it would help many people, especially people who are part of historically marginalized groups.
