I was looking at a few articles about opsec, trying to learn as anyone does., And one particular thing I came across was something called,“Dead Man Switch” which can be programed to do multiple variations. Some people make it encrypt the full device and send out the keys to certain recipients. Others just make it brick the whole system… for some reason. My main question is, are there any ways to self host such a thing? Because I am aware there are certain services for such, but I’m gonna be honest, I don’t trust some random cloud to hold everything.
what is a dead man switch going to provide that you can’t already do proactively?

I don’t really know how a dead man switch would work in the cloud, I think you would always need a hardware component for it to work. There’s a few options available like BusKill the can shut down your computer if the cord gets disconnected.
You also have options like Presence Sensing on Windows that can automatically lock your machine when it detects you leave if your computer has the appropriate hardware, I don’t think you can set it to fully shut your machine down though.

A lot of services have something like this built in, they call it legacy contact or emergency access or something. You should probably use the built-in feature in whatever services you have for this.
Never understood this. Why not just use LUKS and have a laptop plugged in with no battery? Then you could just put out the charger. Same thing
