I’m notoriously not a cryptocurrency fan, and yet I see this as clearly a bad move.

Context is important. The rule is: “Content that harms the reputation of Codeberg, such as cryptocurrency related projects” and it’s a part of the “You must not share any content that’s expressing hate or encouraging violence towards a person or group for any reason.” rule.

If a project does not harm the reputation of Codeberg (e.g. by scamming people or doing other shady stuff) it does not fall under this specific rule. And if it did, it would be a TOS violation even before the change. Cryptocurrency (the scammy kind) was just added as an example here.

Actually, apparently it is just extraordinarily poorly worded.

In the sense that the wording apparently has no relationship to the intent of the rule whatsoever, since this interpretation is unambiguously not what the current text says lol

they also banned vibecoded projects Protecting our FLOSS commons from LLMs — Codeberg News #1253 - Proposal Assembly 2026: ToU extension to prohibit LLM-extrusions - Codeberg/org - Codeberg.org

These kind of policies seem almost impossible to enforce.

Just look at how IzzyOnDroids AI policy has basically ground their app admission process to a crawl. It is way easier for people to cover up their LLM use then to have the skills to do what they have their LLM do poorly.

from what i can tell this seems to be more about sending a message rather than an attempt at moderating all vibe coded projects on codeberg.
