This is an annoying thing. Brave updated on Android, removing the language “forget me when I close this site." The privacy guides recommended tools page still has the old-school language and is out of date.

This post is partially a PSA in case anyone didn’t notice that. On top of that, it’s a PSA for everyone that had that setting enabled before **because even if you had "forget me” enabled, auto shred sites on close is not enabled by default.** So you may be picking up a lot more cookies than you think on mobile browsing until you go and update that setting again.

Hopefully the auto shred actually works on Android. It has not worked on iOS for me for the most part. (It appears it also doesn’t work properly on Android. Closing the PG forum and then coming back to it still has me signed in, until I manually click the shred button)

This explains so much. I have a lot of sites I frequent and I was getting really confused why suddenly I’d go to type “re” and it would autocomplete to “reuters” and I’m like “wtf?”

Just went and turned this on. Thanks.

What is the reasoning for this change? On the first review it seems that this implementation is inferior to the “forget me when I close this site”. The option seems to be global and can’t be disabled for select sites.

Thank you, completely missed. I’ll read up more on this new change then in the coming days, but if I can enable that by site, then I do wonder how different this is to what they had before. I doubt it’s just a name change. I’ll find time to research

> Starting with version 1.89, Brave for Android brings Shred from iOS, so you can clear one site's data without logging out of others, with optional Auto Shred on tab or browser close.

I’ve got a pull request to fix this, just needs to get approved:

>
> List of changes proposed in this PR:
>
> - Remove "Clear data on exit" since it d…oes the same thing as setting [Auto Shred](https://brave.com/privacy-updates/37-shred-button-android/) to clear on app close
> - Remove social media blocking settings since they might break sites, and blocking specific sites being embedded doesn't stop other sites from being embedded
> - Fix inconsistent tabs by removing these two settings (Android settings showing up for both iOS and Android)
> - Fix mislabeled V8 setting
> - FIx Leo AI setting name and add iOS version of the setting
