Yeah. But the near riots at nerfing the free tier would be much greater than the uproar over just the web page changing 1-2 weeks back.

Biometric unlock is available on the Proton Pass browser extension for macOS and Chromium-based browsers on paid plans, starting with version 1.37 and rolling out gradually. It is the latest version available for Brave. You don’t need to speak German to understand it. There are literally two options, Keine (None), and PIN.
And I am against the idea of rolling out some features from the server side. If everything is rolled out from the server, then why are we updating client apps? That also means they have control over the client apps, like this browser extension remotely.

I think they meant it’s available in chromium browsers on Mac at the moment but other OSs are coming.

Bitwarden did a ton of QoL changes as of recently and i like it. I no longer have to change the autofill options method to be able to autofill a certain record once. The new web extension UI is also pretty nice. Organization > personal vault is now easier to spot.
I’m hoping they’ll fix their extension to allow users to use jitless mode in Chromium.

Agree. I’ve never had a problem with Bitwarden UI or the password manager. It’s always seemed reliable and lightweight compared to others.

You like that abomination of UI? I can just vibe code that in 15 mins, and can do better. They just put their web vault as an electron app and told us it is the desktop app.

There are some differences and nuance:
Electron is one of the most bloated and resource-heavy apps, it is literally Chromium, node.js and V8 wrapped into one package.

Just dropping by to share that inclusivity and transparency were never removed from the Bitwarden values (the headings were just updated, and both remain under the Gratitude and Trust sections.

On the UI side, the team is dropping an early preview shortly for a beta coming out in the fall with a focus on incorporating UI/UX feedback.
Bitwarden will always have a free version. Not a restricted trial. Not a bait-and-switch. A genuinely useful, functional free tier, because every individual has a right to basic password management, and a world where more people use strong credential security is safer for all of us. That commitment is permanent.

I’ve tried Proton Pass and they basically do the same, but their flatpak apps aren’t even official. I personally don’t hate the decision of using Electron, their app wouldn’t exist on Linux otherwise.
Anyway, i’ve tried proton pass and it’s arguably worse. You can’t tag/directory organize your passwords. If you want to distinguish Work/personal passwords - you have to create another vault, and vaults are limited. There’s also no machine accounts/vaults for AI agents/work related stuff. And i can’t turn off the animations, the whole UI feels slower because of that.
What alternatives do you suggest?

UI-wise Proton is much better than Bitwarden, that is for sure. Personally I am using 1Password as my primary password manager. I made a switch to Bitwarden when 1Password raised their prices but then saw that BW still lacks too many things and have no intention to add them, like categories, custom items, native Windows passkey support (last update was last year for that one) and UI is very bad. I don’t know which developer or designer looks at the screen and says “oh, this is awesome”. You can’t even sort items, which is the most basic thing. There are lots of empty spaces, no idea why.

I disagree. Proton pass UI is worse than Bitwarden. Bitwarden is to the point and easy to understand. I also think the account security features are a more intuitive and secure UX.
Proton pass in the web has a permanent banner asking you to install their extension, get mobile apps, upgrade, etc. Bitwarden tastefully allows you to hide these suggestions.

I’d love to see Bitwarden integration with email aliasing services. Proton pass makes it really convenient to create and delete aliases on demand.

I think the person above meant that it would be good if Bitwarden included its own email alias manager in addition to the third-party email alias services it currently supports.
That’s true – paying for Bitwarden plus a third-party email alias service can work out expensive; if it were built in, it would certainly be cheaper.

I use SimpleLogin. What makes this annoying is twofold with Bitwarden
- Different UI to manage aliases
- Need to enter SimpleLogin API key manually across each and every Bitwarden login
1 isn’t as big of a deal as 2, as every device I log into I need to fumble around adding the API key.
