Best source to download music (without DRM)?

Bandcamp yes as far as I know (you get the actual music file).

Fastest way to know, give a try to both quickly.
You’ll see which one you like more and fits your needs.

I want to make sure I can play the files with all players and on all devices without issues

If your player is not from before WW2, I guess it will be able to read .mp3, .flac and all in between without any issues. :+1:

Aside from the YouTube front-ends PG already recommends and that do what you asked, I also like https://monochrome.samidy.com/. This is a web frontend to YouTube Music. It allows downloading songs.

Thanks for the recommendation!

Also a very basic and nice stack with no extra fluff. :+1:t2:

There is no such thing as legal or illegal, it’s a notion that fully depends on your jurisdiction. I suggest the *arr suite for your all content.

If you want a detailed table of DRM-free games, music books and more go to this Internet Archive SnapShot from fckdrm.com and scroll down till the end.

Very nice resource! Sad it’s down, hence I’m leaving a screenshot here for posterity in case the Wayback machine becomes obsolete and fckdrm.com is not accessible anymore.

And yes, GOG rocks from A to Z! :sign_of_the_horns:t2::grin:

BTW, FCK DRM is even an initiative from GOG

Yeah saw that, hence why I left it in my screenshot. They are quite known for those kind of moves!

Oh didn‘t saw that it was already in your screenshot

Really? Do they have any other similar interesting campaign that you know of :slightly_smiling_face:?

It seems like Qobuz and Bandcamp are the best sources to buy high quality DRM free music.
Are their any significante differences between them?

I noticed that depending on the product one of the sites is cheaper for 20-40%, but I don’t really get why?

And that Qobuz sometimes offer higher quality and their website ooks more polished then Bandcamp

Very objective and not very relevant to music DRM anyhow.
The quality is higher? Same, I would like to be sure that they are not cranking the numbers because I don’t see how it can be better than the vanilla output from the artist.

Probably depends on the middlemen, sponsorships, deals with brands, cut taken by X and Y.
Not sure it matters after you bought it. Since Bandcamp is the cheaper one, I indeed guess that there is less fluff you’re paying for in between you and the artist you’re buying the music from.

Quality is in whatever the artists upload.

Qobuz has streaming + purchase option I believe, which is nice. Bandcamp isn’t as good of a UX, but if it’s cheaper might as well do that.

For some songs or albums, Qobuz is cheaper.

Guess you could use both then?
Not sure it matters that much at the end of the day. :hugs:
