Previously used a keypad entry doorlock, but being attached to WiFi, someone still managed to get in (hacked?). Would my next best option be to get a nondigital keypad doorlock? Any recommendations? Threat level seems to be high lately with break ins.

Digital may feel like it’s unpickable, but now you’re dealing with endless complexity of the digital world. I’d argue using a high end mechanical lock beats majority of digital options.

Here in Finland lock picking of apartments is a negligible issue thanks to Abloy, whose locks are on (according to YLE) 90% of our doors. Most locks use Exec cores from what I’ve observed.

Abloy doesn’t really downgrade its lock designs and AFAIK there haven’t been blunders so the per-year designs should reflect security tiers (although Novel might make an exception I don’t know about that one).

As you can see they’re all disc tumbler locks, and even the 120 year old `classic` core with minimum number of discs, embedded in a plastic Moomin lock, gave LPL some exercise:

So go with Exec or Protec(2) and there’s only a handful of people in the entire world who know how to pick one and who have the necessary specialized tools.

Also if you insist on having digital lock, Abloy does carry the Protec 2 CLIQ stuff that requires both mechanical and digital authentication with the key, and it’s possible to revoke the digital access to protect the lock until its core can be replaced. So I’d go with that option if you need such security.

Keypads in general are pretty weak, its quite negligible to see which 4-6 buttons have been pressed the most (just need to get the right order). Then there is always the looking over your shoulder or planting a camera (which these days can be very small /undetectable) in the right place. IMO I would trust a good old key, or use both.
