This is a fake Stremio app that has been on the appstore since april 9th. In the App Privacy section, the app declares that “Data Not Collected The developer does not collect any data from this app.”
This is highly unlikely because the linked developer privacy policy is for a completely different scam app and it declares that it does collect data. Also, according to reviews, the app has scammy advertisements/popups that most likely contain trackers.
Obviously, on top of the fact that Apple’s “rigorous review process” allows a completely fake closed source spying app, while removing a open source usable one.

Well, the real Stremio app is not open source and has plenty of telemetry and trackers, but at least there’s no ads..

I will say that it’s on the user to not read the name of the app or look at any details before downloading any app. I don’t mean to imply a user must perform deep research but clicking on a link or two to see the inconsistencies.
Of course, Apple can do better here. They should be ashamed but the argument against from any company is going to be this: once you get this big, mistakes will occur and some users can be harmed. Cost of doing business for such companies as they are “too big to fail”.

I wonder what’s the worst the app does. Like is it just scam ads, or is there any real malware. How bad would it be for an unsuspecting person to click on the ads.

Folks who use apps like Stremio likely know what they’re doing. But if you’re absolutely not reading a single word of any app you download to see if its the right one for you, then I’m not too sympathetic to the user in question here.
