'App not installed' error on Android

I’ve been getting this error on my Pixel 6a with GrapheneOS for the past couple weeks, but after googling the error it seems it’s an Android issue. It happens when I try install apks or even when I’m trying to update app I already have installed.

Any fixes or workarounds?

It was after trying to install Element that I decided to post here. I prefer not to use Discord and I didn’t find any helpful posts on the forum.

One way to get this error is to try and install incompatible APK for your phone.

v7a vs v8a vs x86.

Are you getting the error on every software? Even on updating existing ones from the place you installed them from? Is this on the main profile?

I don’t know what this might be, but going through some diagnosing steps might help.

There’s also “View logs” in System. A lotta stuff that is not easily read but we might get more information on the problem we’re dealing with

I’ve tried updating all the apps on my phone and a few of them triggered this error. I’m certain I chose the right version. All my apps are in a secondry profile.

Okay!
I can only offer so much since I am but the user like you, but Ima try.

Thinking about it some more, if the package differs somewhat (is installed from a different “store”, and then you try to update through a different “store”) you might get this error.

Too, if you have installed these apps from the Owner profile, make sure you have “App installs and updates” set to Enabled in

Settings → System → Users → “X user” → App installs and updates

Too, I’ve noticed that the secondary profile only gives the “app not installed” message, when the Owner profile would more likely give a more detailed error

If these don’t find to be the issue, you might find more salvation in the GOS forum. They can be more resolution-oriented kind of people, with some roughness along the edges, but I believe in heart they only try to help. They can offer the best technical support there is!

More information about the update structure regarding this:

apps are installed “globally” on the phone, but only available to profiles that have installed the app.

For example: if I install an app in profile A, but not in profile B, the app only shows up in profile A. But if profile B installs the app, it now shows up. It’s the same app.

If any profile installs a newer version of the app, the app is effectively updated for all profiles (but only visible to profiles that have “installed” it)

I think for one of the apps it was a store issue where I thought I installed the app via Fdroid but it was actually GitHub. For the Element app, I didn’t have it installed. The apk from Fdroid didn’t work but the one from GitHub did. Not sure why.

Thanks for your help!
