# Any Free Alternative to Raindrop.io?

Hello, everyone! I am actually looking for a privacy friendly alternative to raindrop. As I do believe raindrop does not offer e2ee. Self host cannot be an option as I am on windows. Preferably I am looking for something which offers a free plan.

You might not like this option, but how about Firefox’s built-in bookmark manager? I know that it might not be as feature-complete but it’s the most private you can realistically get.

Looking briefly at raindrop, is there a specific reason why you use raindrop over a browser bookmark manager? For example, apparently, if you bookmark a page, it saves a permanent copy, even if the page disappears. That’s incredibly useful, but if I want to preserve a web page, I would just download it as a PDF. But if you’re just looking for e2ee, then yeah, as suggested, just use a built-in bookmark manager.

I always use [alternativeto.net](http://alternativeto.net) to find open source alternatives to proprietaries and there are some pretty good options, even if it’s not a direct alternative.

Hello! Thank you for the response! I am not actually using the default bookmark because I am mostly saving different kinds of post or pictures from some of android apps as well. It’s like I am dumping all of the resources I feel I might need or want to learn from either an android app or my desktop browser.

Hello! Thank you for the reply! I am currently using brave as my primary browser. And I was actually looking something other than browser bookmark manager because sometimes I do capture links or images from android app as well. I am not aware if I can use the browser bookmark manager in that case.

Floccus bookmark sync. Can be stored on webdav, git etc and the stored html file can be password encrypted.

I see. Personally, I would save pictures in my gallery or if I want to save posts (Reddit for example), I would add it to my RSS feed. Yeah, it’s not as convenient as an AIO bookmark manager.

Floccus looks promising. I don’t know if it’ll work for your use case, but there’s an Android version available. I do have a Nextcloud server so I would try it for myself in the future, but it looks like you can sync your bookmarks over a Github or Google Drive account.
