Hello,  
I woul’d like to record the audio output of my Android smartphone (no, not to eavesdrop, but to save podcasts that are encapsulated into closed-source apps…)  
Any suggestion ? Thanks !

You need to pipe it as USB-C to 3.5 mm jack then plug it as Aux in to your sound device of choice

Sure, if your laptop has Aux-in but I dont think a such a thing are common. You may need a USB DAC/ADC to have the input for the audio.

Actually, can’t this be done using the screen recorder feature? Just export the file to mp3 or similar if you don’t want the video of your screen afterwards.

It will work if there are no DRMs that might interfere. You know how jealous publishers are.

If your source is Spotify, I don’t think they permit it.

Analog route is a rabbit hole that is impossible to plug.

Not sure if it is a solution for you but did you consider to use the Android Studio Emulator and run the app on desktop? Might be easier to capture from that point on.

I’ve tried to do it with the scrcpy program of Genymobile (runned as a snap because the package is no longer available on the Debian rep) but the audio forwarding doesn’t work…

Aux-in or Line-in (usually found in PCs)

can accept a 3.5 mm male to male wire from an 3.5 mm audio jack from a cellphone (provided it has one, if not you need a USB-C to 3.5mm dongle.

With that setup, you can record on your audio in a PC/Laptop (maybe MacOS as well?). I use Audacity for this on Linux. I dont know if the recent Windows still has that old Recorder program from way back from Win 95/98 era. Audacity is your friend if it doesnt exist anymore.
