# Amazon Web Services outage hits several major apps, websites

Thanks. Yeah, I realized yesterday how dependent on Signal I was. I love Signal, but the fact that I didn’t have a private alternative option to message my friends and family while it was down is annoying. Of course, I could have used WhatsApp or god forbid T_l_g\*am, but that could encourage the contacts I converted to Signal to text me there, and I don’t want that.

Having to convince people close to me to download a 2nd E2EE app as backup is just not practical. This incident incentivizes me even more to try [OpenBubbles](https://discuss.privacyguides.net/t/is-openbubbles-a-safe-app-to-use-it-allows-for-imessages-on-android/32220), given the number of people I know who use iPhone.
