# Alternative to Google Lens?

This has been asked before about a year ago, wondering if anything has changed. I’m a little surprised nobody has done anything with this, even though there are many translation and ocr apps available such as Rtranslator

It’s difficult to make such an app or product in a privacy respecting way I feel. Sure, AI can help with it now but unless it’s offline and on device, a privacy forward alternative is not possible for the most part.

Probably not the answer you are looking for, but [Google Images](https://images.google.com/) still exists. I usually use it, no account needed.

What I’ve been doing lately is running multimodal llms to translate text in pictures from a server at home, so its a bit better than that at least. But it’d be nice if there was a better interface for it all.

Oh if that’s the use, then they are alternatives. openrouter.ai allows you to choose an OCR engine, including Mistral OCR.
